THIS MONTH WE WALK...
EL MADRID DE ALMADA
Saturdays November 23 and 30, Saturday December 14 / 11.00 - 13.00 h.
In this walk we will tour the avant-garde Madrid that José de Almada Negreiros experienced, a scene in which the Portuguese modernist painter participated actively during his stay between the late twenties and early thirties.
Together we will reflect on the influence and heritage of the artist in the imaginary of the city, which still today preserves works from what was a very fruitful moment for his creative production. And we will also pay attention to the forms and spaces of collectivity of this avant-garde scene at the time, to which Almada frequently went to take part in meetings and gatherings.
This walk, with free participation, is organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Portugal. You can learn more details here and sign up by sending an email to hola@laliminal.com.
COMING SOON
SECOND MEETING OF CIUDAD SUR: VERDE OLIVO
In this session we ground ourselves on the colour of the leaves of the olive trees in front of the Móstoles-El Soto train station. This small park is in danger of being cut down and swallowed up by a grey cement that would make way for 80 new houses. One more of the indiscriminate felling of trees that is being carried out in the Community of Madrid, under promises of replanting and erasing remnants of shade and oxygen.
We will walk together to learn about, share and discuss the neighbourhood mobilisations that counter these interventions, as well as to real estate speculation and urban renewal projects, also taking into account the non-human life of the environment. We will be accompanied by Xisela Garcia Moure, a teacher in agroecology, permaculture, urban gardening techniques and sustainable food; and Silvia Arévalo Moreno, a neighbour of Arganzuela who has actively participated in the campaign against the massive felling of trees in this neighborhood.
The session will be held on 12 November at 18:00. You can find out the details and register here.
THE MARGIN AS A SPACE FOR EXPLORATION
This month we share in our blog the communication that we will present at the II International Congress History with Memory in Education, in which we present two of the projects that we have recently developed for educational contexts.
These are projects with complementary methodological orientations, which go from the urban tour to classroom work, and which have the common objective of deepening the study of Democratic Memory in the school environment. Thus, we present, on the one hand, the series of urban tours aimed at students in the 4th year of ESO and Bachillerato around the figure of Arturo Barea and his trilogy La Forja de un rebelde, and, on the other hand, the didactic guide developed in the first stage of the project Memorias de las luchas vecinales de Madrid (Memories of neighbourhood struggles in Madrid).
You can learn more about these projects and the reflections we have been building on them here.
